Dr. Paul Goddard
Clinical Psychologist
Dr. Paul Goddard earned his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology with specialization in Child and Family from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1993. His internship at Shasta County Mental Health Center in Redding, CA served as a gateway into working with diverse populations in both community and inpatient settings. As a Licensed Clinical Psychologist (Utah, New York, Idaho and soon California), he has continued his work as a therapist, testing psychologist and administrator for some of the nation’s foremost adolescent and young adult treatment programs. Dr. Goddard feels most at home in the outdoors - “Mother Nature is a remarkable teacher” – and is delighted to join the team at Lake Tahoe Preparatory School as a therapist and psychologist.
Paul’s ability to balance genuine nurturance with personal accountability has earned him the reputation of being a “gentle giant” among his clients and their families. Supporting growth and healing in young people on their journey through adolescence and into adult life is his primary focus. He also loves to facilitate parent workshops and other family work. His dedication to promoting healing throughout the family system is evident in all of his work.
Dr. Goddard’s experience and training include work with trauma, attachment issues, depression, anxiety, negative body image, addictions, learning difficulties, ADHD, oppositionality, and low self-confidence. He challenges students to “find that which is best within and to harness that inner strength to make the world a better place.” In his role at Lake Tahoe Prep., Dr. Goddard will be shifting his focus from clinically complex clients to a student population needing support and guidance in facing developmental challenges and launching into adulthood.
Paul stays young by playing with his ever-energetic dogs Jessie and San’ta.
Exploring diverse cultures, playing the guitar, and spending time in nature are cherished activities.
