Steve was a long-time professor of the environmental and biological sciences, mathematics, and statistics at Sierra Nevada College, which was a private liberal arts college in Incline Village, Nevada. Most recently he taught life science and advisory classes at Carson Middle School in Carson City. He grew up in Traverse City, Michigan where he developed a love for the environment and freshwater systems. Steve is a very active outdoor enthusiast and is especially passionate about kayaking, skiing, hiking, and mountain biking. He has started to do some flatwater kayak racing and can often been seen out training on Lake Tahoe. He is a serious photographer and has taught courses in conservation photography in South Africa. Beyond his academic experience Steve has been a board member in a variety of local nonprofit organizations such as Mountain Area Preservation, Tahoe Family Solutions, and the Western Nevada Regional Science Fair.
