Small Classes and Individualized Support
Founded in 1978, Lake Tahoe Preparatory School has helped students achieve academic success for more than four decades. The school is accredited by Cognia and the Middle States Association and maintains a 100% college acceptance rate.
Even during the summer session, the school maintains its commitment to small class sizes, experienced teachers, and individualized academic support. Students work closely with instructors who understand how to help them rebuild confidence and develop stronger learning habits.
Summer School Meets Outdoor Adventure
One of the most unique aspects of attending summer school in Lake Tahoe is the opportunity for students to spend time outdoors every day.
Located in Olympic Valley, California, just minutes from Lake Tahoe, the campus sits in the heart of a region known worldwide for its natural beauty and outdoor recreation.
Each afternoon, students participate in activities such as:
Hiking mountain trails
Mountain biking
Fishing
Stand up paddle boarding
Flat water kayaking
Rock climbing
River rafting
These activities help students stay active, develop confidence, and enjoy the natural environment surrounding the school.
Research consistently shows that physical activity and time outdoors support emotional well-being, improve focus, and help students return to the classroom with renewed energy.
Exploring the Lake Tahoe Region
Weekends provide additional opportunities for students to explore the surrounding area and experience the culture of the Lake Tahoe region.
Excursions often include visits to:
Historic Virginia City, Nevada
The mountain towns of Truckee and Tahoe City
Paddle boat rides on Lake Tahoe
Day trips to Reno or Sacramento
Students may also visit the Village at Olympic Valley, where they can enjoy shopping, restaurants, and activities including an aerial tram ride to 9,000 feet above sea level.
These experiences help create a summer that feels both enriching and memorable.

A Summer Program That Can Lead to the School Year
For many students, the summer boarding school program at Lake Tahoe Prep becomes more than a short-term academic experience.
Families sometimes use the summer session as an opportunity for students to experience the school community before enrolling for the full academic year. Spending several weeks on campus allows students to build relationships with teachers, develop routines, and gain confidence in a supportive environment.
By the time the academic year begins, many students already feel comfortable and connected.
