About Lake Tahoe

Lake Tahoe Preparatory School students enjoy an unparalleled boarding school experience that includes breathtaking views of 9000-foot Sierra Nevada mountain peaks, lakeside recreation at nearby Lake Tahoe, and nearly 300 days of sunshine year-round. Simply put, Lake Tahoe is truly one of the most beautiful places on Earth.

Our campus is nestled in the Olympic Valley at the edge of the Tahoe National Forest. Our campus is two miles from the Palisades Tahoe Ski Resort, home of the 1960 Winter Olympics, and all students receive a Palisades at Tahoe season ski pass with their LTP tuition.

Students shopping off campus

We are less than five miles from California’s largest and most beautiful lake, Lake Tahoe, and the quaint, historic towns of Tahoe City and Truckee are each within a few miles of school. They provide a variety of shopping opportunities, as well as restaurants, hotels, and recreational options. For those seeking a city excursion, we offer convenient proximity to several major hubs. Reno, Nevada, is 45 miles to the east; Sacramento is 100 miles to the west; and San Francisco is 200 miles to the west – less than four hours by car, or 50 minutes by air.

At an elevation of 6,200 feet (2000 meters),  our campus experiences clean, fresh air and a full range of seasonal climates, with average temperatures ranging from a low of 20°F in the winter to a high of 85°F in the summer (-7°C to 30°C).
