Sports by Season
Natural beauty and outdoor adventure abound at Lake Tahoe Preparatory School. The Sierra Nevada and Lake Tahoe offer countless options for physical fitness and the pursuit of athletic achievement. While we do offer conventional team sports, we emphasize the importance of students pursuing individual activities that take advantage of our natural surroundings.
Fall
In the fall, Squaw Valley Academy students choose to participate in competitive soccer, basketball, or cross-country running. Other fall sports include: bicycle riding, swimming, volleyball, rock climbing, tennis, mountain biking, golf, fly-fishing, and hiking.
Winter
During the ski season, the academic schedule provides time each day for students to ski or snowboard at Palisades Tahoe. The entire school enjoys the slopes on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the winter, and all students are given a Palisades Tahoe ski pass for their use.
Students have immediate access to world-class skiing, snowboarding and cross-country skiing. Developmental ski and snowboard classes, from novice to advanced, are available to help refine skills and the enjoyment of these winter sports. Competitive athletes have the option to join the Palisades Tahoe Ski, Snowboard, or Freestyle Team or other local competitive racing or freestyle teams.
Palisades Tahoe offers six peaks of moderate to advanced terrain, three terrain parks, a Superpipe and some of the deepest snow in the world. Annual snowfall at Palisades Tahoe averages 450 inches (11 meters) per year, yet has 300 days of sunshine. Thirty-three lifts, including North America’s only Swiss Funitel and an aerial Cable Car, transport skiers and riders onto 4,000 acres (1,600 hectares) and 2,850 vertical feet (868 meters) of ski terrain.
In addition to outdoor winter sports, LTP provides students with access to indoor sports such as volleyball, basketball, indoor soccer, indoor rock climbing, and weightlifting or cardio equipment.
Spring
Spring finds our students enjoying beach volleyball, tennis, fly-fishing, lake kayaking, river rafting, rock climbing, soccer, tennis, golf, and swimming. Other clubs, weekend activities, and sports electives are often created based on student interest and faculty expertise.
