Parent Perspectives

LTP families seek out our school for a variety of reasons specific to their child, but all agree that LTP offers their child the foundational experience necessary to take the next step.

LTP parents are grateful for our ability to prepare their child to be ready to launch--ready to take their next steps in their higher education in college.

"We are a Mexican family and our son is currently in his second year at Lake Tahoe Preparatory School. Since the first phone call and skype interview, the staff was incredibly supportive and made us feel welcome from day one. We then went to visit and found exactly what we had suspected from the call, an incredible staff, amazing place and setting, impressive understanding of teenage behaviors, and wonderful classrooms and academic programs. Our son has been extremely happy there, when we talk to him he tells us about different activities and he absolutely loves the skiing program. We, as parents, have always felt that our son is safe there and the rules are always clear and it makes it easier for our son because he knows what the school expects from him. The study halls are a good tool for our son and the help in all the academic subjects is always available which helps him thrive in his grades. The setting of the school is beautiful, right there on the mountain and the dorms are cozy. I totally recommend this school to any parent that is looking for a small personalized education for his son or daughter. We have seen our son grow with a sense of who he is and at the same time feeling accepted and loved by friends and staff members."

"Our son has become a critical thinker at Lake Tahoe Preparatory School thanks to the small, coed classes and dedicated academic staff. Teachers have creative approaches to class assignments and the time to work with the students one on one. His learning differences have been addressed through the school’s impressive Academic Learning Center and evening study halls. Beyond academics, the school focuses on the well-being of the whole teen. Our son has benefited by the robust physical education program which includes activities at Olympic Valley ski slopes and the water sports at magnificent Lake Tahoe. Also, our son has built friendships with students, from all over the world, because of the convivial dorm life and organized social activities on and off campus. The academic and administrative staff are compassionate, communicative, and intuitive. They always look for individualized solutions. This is especially true of the College Counseling program which provides incomparable assistance on our son’s applications. Thanks to Lake Tahoe Preparatory School, our son has discovered a field that interests him and he is has been accepted to several colleges, including his first choice!"

"When e-Learning didn’t work at all for my son during his freshman year of high school, I contacted LTP at the recommendation of another family whose son attended. I was immediately struck by the engagement and care demonstrated by Bill Grant in my early phone calls: he was a great listener and advised why LTP seemed to be a perfect fit for my son after hearing our story and my frustrations (he had recently been diagnosed with some attention and impulse control issues and e-Learning brought out the worst consequences of those issues.) The school offers very tailored, hands-on learning - and Mr. Grant explained that they were extremely committed to 100 percent in-person instruction with daily staffed after-hours study halls. My son was interested in trying something different - so off he went. Fast forward to mid-semester sophomore year: he’s getting straight As, has matured incredibly and is chomping at the bit for ski season. I’ll be honest the everyday skiing perk was a big draw. But in the meantime, he’s discovered a passion for playing the bass guitar with a great music teacher, a love for his psychology class and an even greater appreciation for the outdoors. We are extremely happy with LTP!
