Criteria for Services

Students arriving from wilderness therapy, therapeutic boarding schools, or residential treatment will be required to participate in therapeutic support until the team determines it is no longer necessary. Students who demonstrate emotional or behavioral acting out in the boarding school setting may be referred for therapy. Additionally, Students may choose to self-enroll in therapy, with the approval of their parents.

During the admission process to Lake Tahoe Preparatory School, families will meet with the Director of Clinical Services to discuss the student’s mental health and emotional needs. This is a good time to discuss prior mental health evaluation and treatment, including current medication. It is requested that each student present a copy of their Neuropsychological testing, IEP documents, or 504 plans prior to admission for the admissions team to evaluate. This will assist the team in making appropriate recommendations for therapeutic services.

Once the student is enrolled at LTPS, they will be matched with a therapist. They will meet with their therapist during their first week of school for an assessment. Parents will also be able to speak with the therapist to discuss the student’s strengths and areas for growth.
